This restaurant is hidden off a small side street in the back streets of Akasaka near Akasaka-mitsuke Station. The interior is all tatami as it feels like someone's old family home. Which is good, because the Kyoto-style traditional Japanese cuisine fits the surroundings perfectly (or is it the other way around). While evenings cost over 10,000 yen, lunch sets start from 1,100 yen and are filling and delicious. Yagenbori is perhaps most famous for its Yasaka lunch set, which is dashimaki tamago with pickled vegetables, small jako fish (to eat with rice), and a kobachi (when I sent in the winter, it was tofu). You also get miso soup and all you can eat rice that is delicious and served to the table in a wooden tub (ohitsu). A meal like this in Kyoto would likely cost almost twice as much. Definitely a great lunch spot for locals and tourists alike (but no English menus).

Must come. Old school no nonsense. The egg omelette is one of the best I’ve had. The grated yam was also delish - one of my fav things to eat. Lots of pickles and rice. Delish !

This place is famous for their tamagoyaki. Unfortunately when we arrived at 1pm on Friday, they ran out of eggs so I ordered the tofu set instead. They were very kind to offer each of us some tamagoyaki for free for compensation 😂😂😂the tofu is okay but the tamagoyaki tastes good. It also has very traditional Japanese restaurant decoration. Good place to explore for lunch for 1100 yen.
